Toyota PRIUS: battery in microcycle mode: the cost of use is divided by five

Abstract

The Toyota PRIUS is the first large diffusion hybrid vehicle. A lot of information is available on the developed technology [1]. The goal of this presentation is to summarize the key points of the Toyota PRIUS hybrid technology and to focus on the impact of the microcycle mode on the battery cost of use. This hybrid technology is first a high efficiency electrical continuous variable transmission. So, it is possible to use the gasoline engine only in the high efficiency zone to have low fuel consumptions. The microcycle mode of the battery provides a cost of use divided by five, which is so competitive with gasoline one.
