Speciation of radionuclides with bioligands using time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence (TRLIF) and electrospray mass spectrometry (ES-MS)

Résumé

Studies on radionuclides complexation and uptake mechanisms at the cellular and molecular level are very scarce. Consequently, the chelating properties of these elements in biological media are not fully understood. As a result, we aim at investigating the interactions between the radionuclide cation and several bioligands. The selected systems were investigated by two major analytical techniques, namely electrospray mass spectrometry (ES-MS) as well as time-resolved emission spectroscopy (TRES). These two techniques are very powerful for speciation studies as, aside their speciation capability, they also allow to determine interaction constants. Moreover, as spectroscopic techniques, they can lead to spectral databanks that are very useful when starting from simple to more complex media. To confirm the obtained results, intercomparison studies were performed together with molecular modelling. The experiments carried out by TRES and ES-MS will be presented.
